Transportation



Bellingham is ninety miles north of Seattle and sixty miles south of Vancouver, British Columbia. Western Washington University is located off Interstate 5. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a major airline hub, is located 100 miles south of the university and is served by all major airlines. Bellingham International Airport is located ten miles from the university campus. Horizon Airlines (a part of the Alaska/Northwest Airlines system) and United Express Airlines (a commuter airline affiliated with United Airlines) provide frequent daily air service from Seattle to Bellingham. Currently there are twelve outbound flights and twelve inbound flights per day.

If you are traveling by air to Vancouver International Airport, ground transportation is available through Quick Shuttle. The shuttle service will drop passengers at Bellingham International Airport.

Round-trip ground transportation from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Bellingham is available on the Bellingham/Sea-Tac Airporter shuttle. Currently there are eight inbound and eight outbound trips per day. Scheduled bus service, via Greyhound Bus Lines, is available, with frequent scheduled trips from Bellingham to Seattle and to Vancouver, British Columbia. Bellingham is also served by Amtrak, with a stop on the route from Seattle to Vancouver. The railroad station is about two miles from campus.

Car rental agencies are located in the Bellingham air terminal.

Driving Directions:

After visiting campus, you might want to check out the surrounding area. Downtown Bellingham is just five minutes away to the north. For an alternate route home, take Chuckanut Drive (Highway 11), which follows the breathtaking Bellingham Bay coastline and rejoins Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon.
