I was on sabbatical during the 2004-05 academic year and spent February through June at Tufts University in the Boston area.  Rachel and Autumn, both M.S. students, kept the lab operating in my absence.  Below are a couple of photos from my time at Tufts and a one week visit to Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).  At Tufts, I worked with students in the laboratory of Professor Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, learning synthesis methods for the preparation of nanoscale metal oxide catalyst materials.  At BNL, I worked with Drs. Jose Rodriguez, Xianqin Wang and Jon Hanson learning how to use X-ray absorption and diffraction methods for catalyst characterization at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS).
