For Quiz #5 (given in the last 15 minutes of lecture on Friday 11/5), the recommended problems to study from the Atkins and Jones text are:

Potential topics for the quiz questions include:

- non-covalent bonds: different kinds of interactions and their relative strengths

- properties of matter related to non-covalent bonding (e.g., viscosity, boiling point, etc.)

- calculation of density from atomic radius and crystal packing; calculation of atomic radius from density and packing

- hydrogen bonds: geometry, donor and acceptor atoms

 

There will be two or three quiz questions similar to the problems given above.  I recommend you prepare for quizzes by working all these problems ahead of time. See me in office hours (M 2-3pm, T 9-10am and W 10-11am and 2-3pm) if you have questions.
